MSFDN Journal

MSFDN is a charity that exists to provide a voice to young people. Through our media and campaigning work, we aim to amplify the voices of those we support. If you are interested in sharing your experiences via the media or our online channels then we’d like to hear from you.

Here you will find many different activities and news that MSFDN has to offer.

Our blogs and stories come from a mixture of sources, including from the children and young people we work with. If you have a story to share or want to submit a blog, you can do so with ease, just click the button that says submit, upload and one of our team will review your work and once approved it will be added to our page.

Warrior’s Stories

Courtney Stinnett’s Story

Living with sickle cell can be challenging and unpredictable, but I believe it makes us some of the strongest people on earth. I have pain episodes and other health issues. When I have a pain crisis, it can occur at any moment. It’s unpredictable. I can literally just start hurting all of a sudden. The only way I can describe a pain crisis is to compare it to a migraine headache, but it’s 10 times worse and located in the joints. I have gotten up in the morning feeling fine, driven to work, and could not get out of the car because of a pain crisis. The pain can be that sudden. I try to do things to avoid going into a crisis, but I cannot always prevent it from happening

I feel… project

We want to shout out about mental health and show that anyone should be allowed to openly speak about their feelings regardless of what others might think so we are asking you to use the sentence I feel… to then add a feeling to, it can be a happy or sad feeling and you can explain that feeling or just use the word, you can use any form of art you want to, so you may draw something, you may want to write something, or you may even have a song to share, the point is to share your feelings.

Our past projects

We have been busy running our search for young ambassadors and volunteers and are pleased with the amount of interest we received. Now is the perfect time to join MSFDN as we are busy creating some new and exciting projects.

Our current ambassadors have been busy working with MSFDN to help us create projects and campaigns that will help raise awareness for mental health in young people and the struggles they face. We are always looking for new young ambassadors to join us so if you feel you have the passion and time to dedicate to our cause then please let us know.

Opportunities

There are lots of ways to get involved with MSFDN, see our opportunities page for more details, you can fundraise for us, you can attend one of our events and or take part in one of our campaigns or projects. We have lots of different campaigns that we are interested in, so perhaps you want to join us in raising awareness for issues that surround young people, including their mental health or the challenges young disabled people face. If you are interested in our campaigns or want to get involved, or even create your own then contact us.

Become a Volunteer

Do you have a passion for helping others, do you want to be a changemaker in young people's lives, are you a young person looking for a new opportunity? Then join MSFDN as a volunteer. No two days are the same and we work with you to find your interests, passions and motivations to assign you with tasks and responsibilities that match your individual characters. It’s not all hard work… laughter is guaranteed!

What an Ambassador can Say?

“I'd encourage any young person to become a Young Ambassador with MSFDN.
It's so much fun!”

Become a Young Ambassador

Do you have a story to share and want to encourage others to talk about their experiences to help support them in their journey then contact us to discuss becoming a young ambassador.

By being part of the programme, our Young Ambassadors not only play an important role in our work, but it also gives them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills (such as public speaking or social media promotion). They also get to meet and socialise with others their own age who have been through similar experiences
